Fascinating history.
The Scotch Family mourns the passing of David Scott.
Attending Scotch on scholarships from 1940 to 1944, David was a 1943 Probationer, 1943 Dux of French, a 1944 Prefect and 1944 Dux of Chemistry.
Briefly teaching in the Junior School in 1945, David joined the Senior School staff in 1948, primarily teaching Physics and Mathematics. He was Head of Physics (1970-75) and Science (1976-77), and Form 6 Group Master (1970-77). He continued teaching after becoming Scotch's inaugural Registrar from 1978 until retiring in 1988.
David successfully coached the 1st Hockey team for 16 years. With limitless work capacity he was a great organiser and administrator, but also had an excellent rapport with students, many of whom found he made Maths easy.
Scotch extends its sympathies to his daughters Lyn, Jan, Karen and Deb and their families.
A memorial service will be held at Deepdene Uniting Church on Thursday 7 November at 11am. ... See MoreSee Less

I really enjoyed being in his physics class in Form 5, 1974. I can still remember the day he showed us that the power in an electrical circuit is equal to to voltage-squared divided by the load resistance. I went on to do Electrical Engineering. He was an excellent teacher, who drew beautiful diagrams on the blackboard, and I am sad to hear of his passing. I send my sincere condolences to his family.
A fine and inspiring teacher and leader. Fondly remembered.
A fine tribute. What is a Probationer?
