About our club

The Cardinal Club is an incorporated organisation that supports rowing at Scotch College and is uniquely affiliated both with OSCA and SPA.

The Cardinal Club was formed in 1981 to encourage support for the Scotch College rowing community by :

  • * providing support for the Scotch College Boat Club through the engagement of members and parents of rowers;
  • * raising funds for the provision of equipment and facilities;
  • * communicating with members and parents through newsletters and other means;
  • * providing social and reunion opportunities for Old Boys and current and former parents and by;
  • * providing an opportunity for Old Boys and others to row both socially and semi-competitively.

The Cardinal Club as a parents’ auxiliary connects parents to each other and to rowing at Scotch by:

  • * providing riverbank support at regattas, particularly the Head of the River;
  • * arranging breakfast for rowers during the season;
  • * co-coordinating a number of social events, such as the opening of the season at the Head of the Yarra each year and the Don Macmillan Cocktail party (with OSCA);
  • * arranging merchandise for competitors and spectators;
  • * by raising funds for equipment and facilities, such as helping fund the building of the Cardinal Pavilion

The Cardinal Club also organises with Mercantile Rowing Club the running of the Scotch-Mercs Regatta and assists the holding of the Year 8 regatta.

The ‘Cardinal Rowers’ operates as a sub-group within the Cardinal Club and provides an outlet for Old Boys, parents and others connected with the School to participate in social and competitive rowing. Social rowing is on Sunday mornings and a number of Cardinals Rowers opt to improve their skill and fitness allowing participation in a variety of masters/veterans rowing regattas.
