A proud alumnus of Scotch College, Doug’s career spans decades of dedication to endocrinology and andrology—the study of hormone systems and male health.
Doug entered Scotch in 1960 at the equivalent of Year 9 level, and quickly made his mark, enjoying the many curricular and extracurricular opportunities the school offered him. In 1964, in Year 12, Doug was a Probationer, and a prominent member of the school’s 1st XI cricket team and the 1st Basketball team. He was also a Cadet Under Officer, in charge of the medical platoon.
After graduating from Monash University in 1971, Doug became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and built a distinguished career as an endocrinologist. His commitment to men’s health led to the founding of the Melbourne Andrology Centre with his wife Liz.
Doug’s leadership extended to Cabrini Hospital, where he served as medical director and co-founded the Cabrini Institute to advance research and education. He has held key roles with Andrology Australia and the Australian Society of Impotence Medicine, advocating for awareness and treatment of men’s health issues.

The Perelberg Award recognizes Doug’s lifelong dedication to improving the lives of men through medical innovation, education, and advocacy.
The Perelberg award honours the memory of Ashley Perelberg from the Class of 1992, who tragically died of a heart attack at the age of 18 in his first year of university study. Ashley exemplified Scotch spirit throughout his full and enthusiastic involvement while a student at Scotch. The Perelberg Award has been presented annually since 1993. The key criterion is that the recipient has shown “exemplary Scotch Spirit”.
Ashley’s family presented a silver sculpture depicting the penguin parade at Phillip Island, which was inspired by Ashley’s devotion to the annual Scotch-at-Cowes summer camps on Phillip Island. The annual winner of the Perelberg Award receives a silver replica of this sculpture which is presented at the schools Year 12 Presentation night
