 What they are doing now!

John Duguid (as at 2003)
John Duguid left school in 1959 after unsuccessfully completing form 5 (year 11 in the modern vernacular). He worked on a country property in Tatura during 1960 and joined the A.N.Z. Bank in 1961. In John’s words, “I spent 38 enjoyable years in City, Metropolitan and Country Victoria during that time”. In 1997 he was offered a retrenchment package, and accepted what was inevitable. At that time he was the Regional Manager for the North West Melbourne Metropolitan area. He is now self employed and contract to companies and individuals who require a conduit between themselves and the Banking/Financial services industries. He is contracted 12-16 hours per week to one particular financial services company and the rest of my work involves private clients.

John’s leisure time is spent playing golf twice a week (lucky devil!) at Latrobe Golf Club where he claims to be “an enthusiastic but unfortunately unskilled member on a handicap of 26”. We have met many bandits on the golf course before, John. The rest of his time is spent socialising with family and friends.

In 1966, John married Patricia and they had three children, Kate (married with 2 children, Patrick and Cleo living in Sydney), Andrew (living in Melbourne) and Chris (living in London). 1986 saw a tragedy in the Duguid family, when Patricia was killed in a car accident. However, John has since found another partner, Jenny, and they have lived together in Kew for the last 10 years.

He is keen on all sports, particularly AFL Football, and the Essendon Football Club. Other favourite sports include Rugby Union, Tennis, Horse Racing and Cricket and any sports that involve his grandchildren, nieces or nephews. John is a member of the Melbourne Scots, R.A.C.V. Club, Latrobe Golf Club, Medallion Club, Essendon Football Club, A.F.L. member, Melbourne Racing Club and a member of the Australian Davis Cup Tennis Foundation.

He keeps in touch with quite a few of his old school friends and assisted in organising his 40th year reunion in the year 2000. “Bruce Brown, a current staff member, is a contemporary of mine, who I regard as a good friend and we get together at irregular intervals.”
